Avodart Side Effects

Avodart side effects are few and their incidence is similar to those of a placebo… however, they do still occur. First though, a little information about Avodart. Avodart is used to treat BPH (Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy) in men with an enlarged prostate. It must NEVER ever be used by children or women who are pregnant or who have the potential to be pregnant i.e. women of child-bearing age and potential.

In fact, such women must never even touch the drug… sounds drastic, yes I know… the reason is that this medicate can be absorbed through the skin, and can cause harm to your baby, particularly if it is a boy you are having.

You may be prescribed Avodart by itself, but it is also commonly prescribed with another medication for BPH known as Flomax. Follow the link to read up on the side effects of Flomax.

Common Avodart Side Effects

  • Breast disorders (including breast enlargement and tenderness)
  • Decreased libido
  • Ejaculation disorders
  • Impotence

Post-Marketing Side Effects of Avodart

The following Avodart side effects were reported AFTER Avodart was approved and being used by the general population. You should note though that they were reported voluntarily by folks in the general population so there is therefore no way to determine how often they occur or if there is even really a true connection between them and Avodart.

  • Hypersensitivity reactions, including rash, pruritus (i.e. itching), urticaria (i.e. hives), localized edema (i.e. swelling due to fluid retention), serious skin reactions, and angioedema.
